How To Start A Laser Tag Business In 7 Easy Steps.

Mobile Laser Tag is an Easy Business To Start

Thinking of starting a new business? Or, thinking the laser tag business might be right up your alley? Then welcome to the club. So far, there are 3 types of laser tag businesses: indoor, outdoor, and mobile.  Although outdoor and mobile laser tag is similar, for this list, I categorize outdoor as having a permanent, stationary outdoor location where customers come to you to pay to play. Mobile, on the other hand, is where you go to your customers' desired location to set up for play, i.e., their backyard, a park in their neighborhood, etc.  So this is a quick guide on how to start a mobile laser tag business in 7 easy steps.

1. Get a set of outdoor laser tag guns.

Okay, this step is the most obvious and important. I recommend getting the most affordable commercial-grade laser tag guns you can find. Affordable guns are important because you definitely want a quick return on investment. Commercial grade is important because you want robust guns that will last long.

2. Get a vehicle to transport your equipment.

A pickup truck, s.u.v., station wagon, or even a minivan would be sufficient to carry all the gear you'll need to set up for a mobile laser tag event. A simple sign with your laser tag company name on your vehicle would be a good idea. A magnetic sign or window lettering with your logo, phone number, and website might be enough vehicle advertising for your business while you drive around town.

3. Get bunkers for players to hide behind.

Inflatable bunkers are "cool looking" obstacles for your laser tag players to hide behind. They are also practical for a mobile laser tag business because when deflated, they easily fit into the back of an s.u.v., minivan, wagon, or in the bed of a pickup truck. You can purchase Sportogo bunkers on Amazon for your mobile laser tag business.

Choose from a variety of packages. You can either choose a package that offers different shapes of varying sizes, such as X's, cylinders, and cubes, or you can choose a package that offers a military theme, such as tanks, oil barrels, and brick walls.
You can use a pop-up tent as a bunker.
Pop up tents can also be used for players to hide behind.

Some clients use camouflage tents as bunkers for players to hide behind. They're primarily used because they "pop up" in seconds instead of taking minutes to inflate. Although I have yet to use these for my Laser Tag USA business, I put these here to give you another possible option for your business. I don't have a specific recommendation for which type to best choose, but here is a link to browse some of these tents on Amazon: Camouflage Pop-Up Tents.

4. Get a Website For Your Mobile Business.

A website for a business is a no-brainer these days. So go ahead and choose a cool, laser tag-related domain name.
Then sign up for a website hosting program using a hosting company like 1and1.com or Godaddy.com. But because an increasing number of internet browsing is done today on smartphones, ensure your website also has mobile capabilities.

5. Get a local business license.

Do a Google search on getting a business license in your area. You'll need it to get the necessary permits if you decide to set up a mobile laser tag party at a park or any public or private location.

6. Get business liability insurance.

Liability insurance is a necessary expense. Although laser tag is a safe game with no injurious projectiles shooting at you, you should still get laser tag liability insurance because of the off chance a player falls during a game and is hurt, or two players run into each other and are hurt. I've maintained a zero incidents rate in 19 years of running a mobile laser tag business, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Also, some event locations where you might showcase your mobile business, such as fairs, carnivals, schools, and some parks that require you to obtain a permit, will want to be placed on your insurance policy as an additional insured entity. Cossio Insurance Agency (CIA) provides mobile laser tag insurance at great rates.

7. Get a few more items to complete your start-up.

If you decide on inflatable bunkers instead of pop-up tents, you'll need blower/vacuums to inflate and deflate the inflatable bunkers. In those out-of-the-way places, you'll also need a portable generator to power your blower/vacuum.

The following items are not crucial but will help make your job easier: folding table, extension cord, power squid multi-plug outlet, and hand truck dolly.

Now just add a little sweat equity to your business, and you will be on your way to success.
